When And Why is Retention Event Happening?
Retention of players for respective teams of IPL teams is going to be an event on 4th Jan 2018 at 05:00 PM IST. Before most anticipated auction happens on January 27 and 28 for cut-off list remained after retention and RTM selections of particular teams.
Earlier it was going to simple an email affair for retention, teams will send their combination of players they retained and directly move to auction event. But BCCI cancels that plan to showcase that team is here for the integrity of their team. A Star Sports spokesperson told to Pune Mirror.
“The idea is to send out a message that the IPL is not just about money. A lot of effort is put in team-building and we want to start the IPL coverage through retention. The retained players form the core of the teams"
Star India freshly owned by Disney want to re-invent the tournament after winning rights for telecasting the cricket's biggest event from 2018-22 in September last year. Which could also help them to differentiate from Sony Pictures Network style of broadcasting and be reaching audiences. As they need to recover big with from IPL because global rights for it cost them Rs 16,347.50 crore ($2.55 billion), almost 54.5 crores per match. They need to work on monetization of the tournament to turn a profit from the investment.
Where Is An Event Happening?
Retention event is decided to held at Taj Lands End, Mumbai. All teams representatives will attend the event and declare their retentions.
How To Watch It?
It will start airing at 05:00 PM IST onwards (11.30 AM GMT) and then most likely retention declaration of retention could happen after 07:00 PM IST.
